English Literary Week

“Literature is the most interesting and significant expression of humanity.”

Literature is truly the most beautiful and cerebral articulation of human endeavors. Literary week was celebrated with a view to introduce students to the various aspects of English Language. In order to bring students closer to Literature, Delhi Public School, Bangalore West celebrated the ‘English Literary Week’ in the month of August by organizing an array of fun-filled activities for Grades I to VI.

Children of Grade I and II beautifully narrated moral stories using props and recited poems on the themes ‘Seasons’ and ‘Animals and Birds’. They also sang English songs melodiously, which they enjoyed a lot. Besides, they dressed up as a character from their favorite book/cartoon that showcased their acting talent as well.Children of Grade III and IV fruitfully engaged in composing poems on the themes ‘My family’ and ‘Patriotism’. They also narrated stories. Grade III students enjoyed trying their hands at culinary art. Students of Grade V dressed up as ‘Freedom Fighters’ and spoke about them. They also delivered declamation on ‘Gratitude’ and ‘Sports’. Students of Grade VI debated on the topic ‘Online Shopping v/s Offline Shopping’ with full fervor, and delivered declamation on ‘The importance of books in our lives’.A documentary on ‘My Strong Mind’, a story on developing mental strength by Niels Van Hove was played in the class. The other activities included tongue twisters, book mark making, book cover making, cartoon scripting, poster making, slogan writing and idiom illustrations. It was a week filled with flurry and excitement. Further, English language was integrated with the other subjects including Sports, Hindi, Science and Math, to provide a multi-disciplinary approach.

The collaborative efforts of the students and their parents was evident in the videos that captured these various activities. The Literary weekproved to be truly purposeful as it brought the students closer to the magic of English.
